Ammonites had a neatly flat spiral shell. This shell consisted of several rooms. Every time the animal grew, a new larger room appeared. Empty rooms were used, among other things, as a means of continuing to move vertically.
Ammonites are extinct and are a subspecies of the squid. Ammonites were marine animals found in large numbers worldwide.
