Based on a Roman combat mask from the 1st century AD, discovered during excavations in the River Waal. Today, the original mask can be admired in Museum Het Valkhof, but this object brings that heritage into your own home. The Roman horseman's mask was probably placed in the Waal as an offering, a common ritual practice to honour the gods or ask for protection.
