The cave bear, also known as the American cave bear (Arctodus simus), is an extinct species that lived about 800,000 years ago. This impressive bear could reach a height of more than 3 metres when standing on its hind legs. Fossil remains of the cave bear are still regularly found, especially in areas of past ice cover.
